Seven Pounds is an drama film directed by Gabriele Muccino. Will Smith stars as a man who will change the lives of seven strangers. The film is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2008.

Academy Award nominee Will Smith reunites with the director and producers of The Pursuit of Happyness for this emotional drama concerning an IRS agent whose quest for redemption is unexpectedly complicated after he inadvertently falls in love. Ben Thomas is an IRS agent with a fateful secret. Assuming the identity of his younger brother, Ben sets out in search of redemption. Instead, Ben discovers true love while forever changing the lives of seven complete strangers. Woody Harrelson, Rosario Dawson, Michael Ealy, and Barry Pepper co-star.

Ben (Will Smith) is an IRS agent who is depressed and guilt-ridden about mistakes from his past. He sets out to make amends by helping seven strangers. When he meets Emily (Rosario Dawson), a beautiful woman with a heart condition, he falls in love with her, thereby complicating his plans. Woody Harrelson also appears as a blind pianist who befriends Ben. 

Seven Pounds is based on a script written by Grant Nieporte under Columbia Pictures. In June 2006, actor Will Smith joined the studio to star in the planned film and to serve as one of its producers. In September 2007, director Gabriele Muccino, who worked with Smith on The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), was attached to direct Seven Pounds, bringing along his creative team from the 2006 film. Smith was joined by Rosario Dawson and Woody Harrelson the following December to star in Seven Pounds. Filming began in February 2008.

• Will Smith portrays Ben Thomas, a suicidal IRS agent.

• Rosario Dawson portrays Emily Posa, Ben's love interest, suffering a heart condition.

• Woody Harrelson portrays Ezra Turner, a motel attendant who becomes interested in the suicidal man.

• Michael Ealy portrays Ben's younger brother. Will Smith handpicked Ealy for the role.

• Connor Cruise portrays a younger version of Ben. Cruise, in his first role, is the 13-year-old adopted son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
