Ghost Town is an 2008 American fantasy-comedy film directed by David Koepp and starring Ricky Gervais. All post-production work has been finished and it is set to be released on September 19, 2008. It has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for some strong language, sexual humor and drug references. Filming took place on the Upper East Side of New York City. Regarding his character, lead actor Ricky Gervais said, “Just what America wants: a fat, British, middle-aged comedian trying to be a semi-romantic lead.”
A misanthropic dentist (Ricky Gervais) gains the ability to communicate with ghosts after a near death experience in which he dies for seven minutes during a colonoscopy and is then miraculously revived. Ghosts begin to pester him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who wants him to break up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni), putting him in the middle of a supernatural love triangle.
In the romantic comedy “Ghost Town,” Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais), is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni). That puts Pincus squarely in the middle of a triangle with spirited result.
