Funny People is an upcoming American comedy-drama film, written, co-produced, and directed by Judd Apatow, starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen as stand up comedians. Similar to Apatow’s previous films, the film would utilize both comedic and dramatic elements, though it will contain more of the latter. The film is a co-production between Happy Madison Productions and Apatow Productions. Funny People is in production as of October 2008. Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures will co-finance the film, while Universal will distribute worldwide.

Judd Apatow makes his directorial follow-up to the wildly successful Knocked Up with this comedy starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Leslie Mann. Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures team up to co-produce the feature, focusing on the standup comedy circuit and one comedian’s near-death experience. Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, and Jonah Hill co-star.

George is a very successful stand up comedian who learns that he has an untreatable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. Ira is a struggling up-and-coming stand up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One night, these two perform at the same club and George takes notice of Ira. George hires Ira to be his semi-personal assistant as well as his friend. George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a very successful stand-up comedian who learns that he has an un-treatable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live.

Ira (Seth Rogen) is a struggling up-and-coming stand-up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One thing these different men have in common is that neither of them have any close friends. One night, these two perform at the same club and George takes notice of Ira. George hires Ira to be his semi-personal assistant and opening act at his performances, as well as his best friend Laura (Leslie Mann).
